Bright new year on the horizon

"The old Saskatchewan was the place to be from. The new Saskatchewan is the place to be." We've got a solid new government in place. Surgical wait times are on the decline. We're leading the nation in retail sales.

"The old Saskatchewan was the place to be from. The new Saskatchewan is the place to be."

We've got a solid new government in place. Surgical wait times are on the decline. We're leading the nation in retail sales. Housing matters are being looked into. Infrastructure is beginning to shape up and our population is at an all time high - up by more 16,000 people in past year. More people are working than ever and many getting paid more... It seems we've got all the makings for a successful 2012.

Way to go Saskatchewan!

According to Statistics Canada, the number of people living in the province increased by 5,651 between July 1, 2011, and October 1, 2011. That's the most growth ever recorded in any quarter since StatsCan started keeping quarterly records in 1971, eclipsing the record of 5,444 set in the previous quarter of this year.

Saskatchewan had the fastest growth rate in of any province in the past quarter and the second-fastest, behind only Alberta, in the past year.

"Today in Saskatchewan, there are a lot more people moving in than moving out, thanks to our strong economy and tremendous quality of life," says Premier Brad Wall. "Saskatchewan has grown by more than 11,000 people in just the past six months. Our government will continue working hard to meet both the opportunities and the challenges created by our growing population."

Saskatchewan continues to attract many people from other provinces and other countries. In the third quarter, 6,355 people moved to Saskatchewan from other provinces while 5,821 left Saskatchewan to move to another province - a net gain of 534 people.

There have been 2,962 people moved to Saskatchewan from Alberta, 1,299 from Ontario and 971 from BC.

Chalk it up to good government, determination or whatever you will - maybe it's just "OUR" time but the future looks bright and we have a lot to look forward to.

A Happy and prosperous New Year to all!
