Following a month long absence from their home ice the Yorkton Terriers returned with a vengeance, recording a pair of wins at the Farrell Agencies Arena over the weekend.
The Terriers successful road swing saw Yorkton win six of their nine away games, including a 3-0 shutout win over the Notre Dame Hounds Tuesday night before returning to home ice.
Friday night the Terriers narrowly defeated the visiting Estevan Bruins 5-4 after giving up three third period goals to allow the Bruins back into the game. The Terriers established what appeared to be an insurmountable 4-1 lead heading into the third period. Estevan notched three quick goals to tie the game in the final frame before Yorkton potted the game winner.
Robbie Ciolfi launched Yorkton's first goal just 14 seconds into the game assisted by Davis Vandane.
Mark Cross scored the tying goal for the Bruins before Brent Struble scored the go-ahead goal assisted by Ciolfi and Craig Eisenhut to give the Terriers a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
Struble opened second period scoring with his second goal of the game assisted by Zak Majkowski and Brenden Poncelet.
Poncelet made it 4-1 for the Terriers with a single-handed marker. to round out second period scoring.
Troy Hunter, Taylor Epp and Ryan Andersen each scored once for the Bruins in the third period to threaten the Terrier lead.
Brennan Tutt notched the game winner for Yorkton assisted by Justin Lamontagne and Poncelet who was named first game star with three points for the night.
Saturday the Terriers came out firing on all cylinders as they snowed the visiting Hounds under 8-2 with a pair of goals in the first period and three goals in each of the second and third periods.
Vandane scored Yorkton's first goal 45 seconds into the game assisted by Ciolfi.
Ciolfi made it 2-1 for Yorkton late in the period assisted by Eisenhut and Struble.
Notre Dame's Trevor Milner tied the game at one and Carson Grolla evened things up at 2-2 following Ciolfi's goal.
Eisenhut opened second period scoring a little more than half a minute into the period assisted by Struble and Kelly Lessmeister.
Struble added a goal midway through the period assisted by Eisenhut.
Tutt notched a powerplay marker late in the period assisted by Lamontagne and Blaine Tendler to make it 5-2 for the Terriers after 40 minutes.
Keven Cann notched the first of three Terrier third period goals less than one minute into the period assisted by Struble and Keon Vick.
Majkowski popped in a second third period goal, a solo marker a little over two minutes into the final frame.
Ciolfi scored his second of the game to cap the scoring midway through the period assisted by Eisenhut and Struble.
Terrier forward Brent Struble picked up five points in Saturday's game with a goal and four assists to earn the first game star title.
