The Estevan Bruins handed the Yorkton Terriers the second of three home game losses despite being outshot 39-25 by the Terriers. The Bruins came away with a 7-3 win.
Ben Findlay led the Bruins' scoring parade with three goals while Matt Dochylo, Cole Olson, Mark Cross, and Tyler Spencer each notched a single marker.
Robbie Ciolfi opened the scoring for the Terriers in the second period with a powerplay marker assisted by Clarke Breitkreuz and defenseman Blaine Tendler.
Ciolfi added a pair of goals in the final frame to pick up a hat trick in the game. Nathan Murray earned an assist while Craig Eisenhut assisted on both Ciolfi markers.
The LaRonge Ice Wolves hacked out a narrow 3-2 win over the Terriers Saturday night, peppering Terrier netminder Devin Peters with 26 shots on goal.
Travis Eggum opened the scoring for LaRonge with an early first period powerplay goal.
Nolan Souchotte added an early second period marker while Eggum capped the scoring in just under two minutes into the final frame.
Breitkreuz put Yorkton on the board to open second period scoring assisted by Troy Dumais and Ciolfi.
A battling Ciolfi found the back of the LaRonge net with less than one minute in the game assisted by Breitkreuz and Zak Majkowski.
Despite their best efforts, the Terriers were unable to notch the tying goal before time ran out.
Terriers head coach and GM Trent Cassan says every season has its ups and downs. "We experienced some ups and we're going through a dry spell right now," he comments about the three losses at home.
According to Cassan there is a lot of parity in the league. As a result not only can a team not afford to take a night off, they can't even afford to take shifts off. "We've certainly learned that lesson this week," he suggests.
While the Terriers continue to lead the standings, Cassan doesn't want the team to become comfortable but rather to keep improving over what may prove to be a long season.
Additionally, players are still adjusting to teammates and systems as there has been a significant change in the roster, Cassan notes.
Cassan says the team is looking forward to the extended road trips which are coming up. "It will be something where we can come together more as a team," he suggests. The Terriers will be out of their home arena for about a month, including practices and games.
Despite the struggles last week, Cassan says the team kept battling which shows the character of the Terriers.
