Macclenny, Florida native Brad Griffis comes to the Yorkton Cardinals by way of the Faulkner University Eagles (Montgomery, Alabama). A 6'3 185 pound left handed pitcher, Griffis has mainly come out of the bullpen for the Eagles this season. However he did make one start in which he threw a complete game three hit shutout against the Cumber-lands Patriots. In that game Griffis went seven innings allowing just three hits while striking out five batters.
Overall (at the time of print) the versatile Griffis had a respectable 4-0 record with two saves proving he can not only start a game if need be but finish one off as well. His extended stats are as follows: 27.0 IP, 19 H, 12 R, 7 ER, 7 BB, 31 K and a 2.33 ERA. Expect Griffis to cause problems all season long for the rest of the league as he has great command over every pitch he throws.
Griffis is currently a junior (next year senior) at Faulkner University studying for a degree in Sports Medicine. Griffis has previously played and studied at Gulf Coast Junior College (Panama City, Florida) in 2012 and Enterprise State Junior College (Enterprise, Alabama) in 2011.
If the name Whitehead sounds familiar that's because it should. Matt's older brother Jamie spent last summer in a Cardinals uniform and would be joining his brother this season in Yorkton but for an injury to his ACL. The RHP Matt Whitehead stands at 6'3 and weighs in at 235 pounds posing quite the threat on the mound. Matt currently plays for the Douglas College Royals of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC). Despite pitching sparingly for the Royals so far this year (2.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 1 K) look for the younger Whitehead to be a rock on the mound for the Cardinals in 2013.
Whitehead is currently in his second year at Douglas College and studying towards a degree in Sport Science.
