CAREER EXPLORATIONS 2011 gave area students the ability to see the many opportunities available to them in their future career. Youth in the community need to plan for their future, and start looking at the different opportunities for education and employment. Career Explorations 2011, run in partnership between the Parkland College and the Good Spirit School Division, gave students and community members a chance to see the opportunities available to them.

William Litchfield, Director of Advancement for Parkland College, says that the recently held event provided information about the opportunities in Yorkton, and the type of education needed to work in those various fields.

Students were encouraged to interact with as many exhibitors as possible, with students who stamped ten boxes on their program being eligible for prizes.

Booths represented a wide variety of industries and educational opportunities, with many interactive exhibits, such as a popular heavy equipment simulator.

Litchfield says the event attracted students from throughout the region, and from as far away as Fort Qu'Appelle.

He also says that the day is something important both to the youth in the community, and the businesses which need a skilled work force.

"One of the major challenges businesses are facing today is finding skilled employees for their organization. Being able to come out and start to talk about their industry and what their organization has to offer youth, so they can employ youth right here in the region, it's quite important," he comments.

"It's challenging and expensive to recruit from outside of the community, so an event like this is a way to get both sides aware of who and what is out there," concludes Litchfield.
