Catholic schools kick off cross country

The Christ the Teacher School Division hosted the elementary schools cross country race meet at Sacred Heart High School recently.

The Christ the Teacher School Division hosted the elementary schools cross country race meet at Sacred Heart High School recently. The meet was divided into two parts, with youngsters in Grades 1 to 4 running in the morning and the older Grades 6 to 8 running in the afternoon. Altogether there were some 400 students participating in the annual events, reports race coordinator Tricia Korczak.

The weather was ideal for running, Korczak says. "Kids are having lots of fun," she asserts.

Participating schools in--cluded Melville St. Henry's, St. Theodore, as well as the four city schools, St. Alphonsus, St. Mary's, St. Michaels and St. Paul's.

Runners were placed into grade categories. The Grades 1 and 2 runners raced 800m, the Grades 3 and 4 youngsters ran 1,200m.

The event is an important part of the schools' physical education program.

Future meets will take place on September 30 at the" Annual Summit in Saltcoats as well as the District Meet in Melville to be held on October 6.
