Beginning with National Aboriginal Day, and ending with Canada day, Celebrate Canada is a yearly eleven-day celebration that this year will take place from June 21 to July 1. Each year many different organizations plan events to celebrate specific days during Celebrate Canada. Those events assist those who attend to discover and appreciate the wealth and diversity of Canadian society. It will also boost their pride in being a resident of our remarkable country.

If you are part of such an organization, I encourage you to take advantage of the funding that Celebrate Canada provides to assist with the cost of events.

Special consideration is given to those who plan to hold their event on the anniversary of the actual date. Those days are: National Aboriginal Day on June 21, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 24, Canadian Multi-culturalism Day on June 27 and Canada Day on July 1.

Additional consideration will be given to projects that incorporate themes based on these anniversaries. 2014 will see the commemoration of important anniversaries in Canadian history such as the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown and Québec Conferences. However, funding is not conditional on the inclusion of these elements in the celebrations during the Celebrate Canada period.

Organizing bodies have until January 15th to submit applications for the 2014 edition of Celebrate Canada. If your organization could use this funding and wants to apply, please be sure that your application is completed, signed, and mailed by that date. Incomplete applications delay processing and could be rejected.

Celebrate Canada does its best to acknowledge that they have received your signed application form within 15 days. If you do not receive an acknowledgment during that period, please contact Canadian Heritage office in Regina at 306-780-7287.

As in previous years, there are stipulations as to who may apply for this funding. You may do so if you are:

A not-for-profit organization, corporation, cooperative, and unincorporated associations, etc.;

A business corporation where projects are non-commercial in nature;

An educational institution,

A Canadian municipal government and other municipal, provincial or territorial institutions.

A visit to www.pch.gc.ca will direct you to "Celebrate Canada" where you'll find links to more information, a funding application guide, and a funding application. The Celebrate Canada Funding Application Guide provides more information on who can apply for funding, what expenses are eligible, and how to complete and submit the Funding Application Form.

In order to ensure that your funding request is processed in a timely manner, you must follow the steps indicated in the Application Guide. Note that only one application per applicant for all events (National Aboriginal Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Canadian Multi-culturalism Day and Canada Day) will be accepted for the funding cycle.

Please note that even if your organization and application are eligible, you are not guaranteed funding from the Department. Addition-ally, if your application is successful, the funding you receive may be less than the amount requested.
