With snow on the ground, many people are getting ready to fire up their favorite sled and hit the trails. As a result, it's time to kick off the annual Easter Seals Snowarama campaign. The event itself will be held on February 19, 2011, with the goal of raising $140,000 for Easter Seals.

The event, now in its 34th year, raises money for Camp Easter Seal, Summer Fun, and Adaptive Technology Services, to help children with disabilities have new experiences and educational opportunities.

r of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council in Yorkton, says that programs like Camp Easter Seals help kids with disabilities have experiences which they otherwise would not have.

"A lot of the activities at camp have special accommodations, so that anybody, regardless of physical ability, can participate in camp. I think one of the most memorable moments is kids who are wheel chair users, when they can go into the pool and be lifted out with flotation devices, they can experience freedom and ability that they've never experienced before," Denysek notes.

This year's Snowarama ambassador is Caitlyn Hasper. Born with spina bifida, Hasper needs a wheelchair and has other special needs. She has attended Camp Easter Seals and the Summer Fun program in Yorkton, and Denysek says she's a great ambassador for the cause.

"She's just a great individual. I know at last year's event she was very enthusiastic... We're really pleased that she can represent all Easter Seals children here in Saskatchewan," Denysek notes.

Barry Bradshaw, Chair of the Easter Seals Snowarama Committee, notes that this year sees a few changes from previous Snowaramas. For one, the event will now start at the Gallagher Centre. There will also be a wing night the evening before, on Friday, February 18.

Riders will travel from the Gallagher Centre to Rhein for coffee and doughnuts, and then on to Good Spirit Lake for dinner. The afternoon will see riders travel to Springside and then back to the Gallagher Centre for the banquet in the evening. All fuel for the event will be supplied by the Yorkton Co-op.

The grand prize at this year's event is an Arctic Cat F570. The sled, valued at $8,300, will go to one lucky rider at the end of the day. Each $150 raised gets an entry form. For more information people are invited to visit www.snowarama.ca.
