CEO announces retirement

Sunrise Health Region Chief Executive Officer Joe Kirwan has announced his retirement effective July 31, 2010. Kirwan began his 26 year health care career at Melville's St. Paul Lutheran Home in 1984.

Sunrise Health Region Chief Executive Officer Joe Kirwan has announced his retirement effective July 31, 2010.

Kirwan began his 26 year health care career at Melville's St. Paul Lutheran Home in 1984. In January of 1999 Kirwan accepted the position of CEO of North Valley Health District. During this time he assisted the health district and the St. Paul Lutheran Home and St. Peter's Hospital affiliate boards and administrators in successful collaboration leading to construction of the Melville Health Centre.

In 2001, Kirwan took on dual responsibility as the CEO overseeing operations in North Valley Health District and Assiniboine Valley Health District. In 2002 the North Valley Health District, Assiniboine Valley Health District and East Central Health District were amalgamated to form the current Sunrise Health Region. Kirwan has served as Chief Executive Officer for Sunrise Health Region since 2002.

The Sunrise Regional Health Authority has appointed Senior Vice President of Health Services, Suann Laurent as Interim Chief Executive Officer. This appointment is effective August 1, 2010 and will continue until a permanent replacement is hired.
