CGC council announces sports for 2017 Canada Games

The sports selected for the 2017 Canada Summer Games program are: Athletics (male and female, including athletes with a physical and intellectual disability); Baseball (male only); Basketball (male and female); Canoe/Kayak (male and female); Cycling

The sports selected for the 2017 Canada Summer Games program are: Athletics (male and female, including athletes with a physical and intellectual disability); Baseball (male only); Basketball (male and female); Canoe/Kayak (male and female); Cycling (mountain and road, male and female); Diving (male and female); Golf (male and female); Rowing (male and female); Soccer (male and female); Softball (male and female); Swimming (male and female, including athletes with a physical and intellectual disability); Tennis (male and female); Triathlon (male and female); Volleyball (indoor and beach, male and female); Wrest-ling (male and female).

The Sport Committee also named two sports for 2017 bid committee selection: Taekwondo (male and female) and Sailing (male and female, including athletes with a physical disability). The bid committee that wins the right to host the 2017 Canada Summer Games will indicate to the Council its sport of choice from the short-list.

The fifteen-month bid process to choose the host of the 2017 Canada Games began on January 30, 2012 with the official bid process launch in Winnipeg. The announcement of the successful bid community will be in the first quarter of 2013.
