This year, the Red Cross in Yorkton has been giving tremendous amounts, as they helped people during and after the Canada Day flood.
One community organization plans to follow suit, giving back through a local charity bazaar slated for November 12 and 13.
Community Futures Ventures will be hosting the bazaar, which will be held in the Dominion Room at SIGN on Broadway.
Heather Poirier of Community Futures Ventures says the organization is looking for any household items people no longer need to be sold in the Bazaar, from larger furniture to small goods. Larger items will be on an auction board, so people can arrange to pick them up.
There will also be a bin for non-perishable food items as well, to help those who are still struggling from the lack of employment and housing caused by the flood.
Poirier says that given the help Yorkton received during our time of need, it is time to give back and help the Red Cross not only here, but around the world, as they help places in similar situations.
"We just thought it would be nice to give back to them, and help out elsewhere in Canada where people are being affected. Right now, there is something going on in Newfoundland with a hurricaine. They've given us help in our time of need, and we should give back," Poirier says.
Community Futures' goals are to diversify business and support the community, Poirier says, and events like this are one way to support people in the community.
Those interested in donating items are encouraged to call Poirier at 782-0255. Donations will be accepted two days prior to the event.
