The Yorkton Co-op Food Store recently hosted a 'tailgate' event featuring two Saskatchewan Roughriders along with a hot dog fund raising promotion for Yorkton Minor Football.

Yorkton Co-op general manager Bruce Thurston explains that the event is part of the co-operative retailing system. As major corporate sponsors of the Roughriders, the store invited two Rider players to the Yorkton store to meet local fans and sign autographs. Number 21, running back Hugh Charles and linebacker Jerrell Freeman, number 50, were on hand to meet local fans and to sign autographs at the store.

At the same time Yorkton Minor Football (YMF) was on hand selling hot dogs. The Yorkton Co-op Food Store donated all the materials for the sale including the barbecue, condiments, hot dogs, buns and pop. All proceeds of the sale went to YMF for the local minor football programs.

The Yorkton Co-op also donated $500 to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan, Thurston points out. The Foundation is a flagship charity of the Federated Co-op and the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Thurston notes. "We like to participate in their charities as well," he states. In addition to the $500, a portion of the proceeds from the Rider products sold by the Yorkton Co-op goes to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan, he continues.

An avid Rider fan, Thurston is confident the team will turn their season around.
