Chesney looking ahead

Yorkton Terrier general manager and former head coach Don Chesney says the Terriers were picked to finish ninth or 10th in the 12 team league at the start of the season.

Yorkton Terrier general manager and former head coach Don Chesney says the Terriers were picked to finish ninth or 10th in the 12 team league at the start of the season. Despite predictions, the Terriers played right up to the seventh game of the SJHL Credit Union Cup final. "When you look at the overall picture, it was a great year and we just have to try to build for next year," Chesney suggests.

After losing a lot of veterans last season, Chesney, who was hired last May, and Terrier head coach Trent Cassan along with team scouts, went about recruiting a group of young players and then set about making a team out of them.

The Terriers have probably the best young coach in hockey today in Cassan, Chesney states. Both he and Cassan believe in teaching young players. "It's easy to go out and buy players but sometimes you have to make players out of guys," Chesney explains.

He has enjoyed his first full year as general manager and working with Cassan and the Terrier organization. "I'm looking forward to next year and hope to just keep going," Chesney closes.
