chuckwagon and chariot racing at the Yorkton Exhibition saw close competition in both categories. The winners of the weekend were Ryan Peterson on the chuckwagons and Reed Rosencrans on the chariots.

The Yorkton Exhibition played host to the annual Chuckwagon and Chariot races again this year. The three day event saw 60 chariots and 48 chuckwagons compete for the top prize.

The winner of the chariot races after three days was Reed Rosencrans of Minot, North Dakota, coming in with the fastest lap on the last day of competition.

The chuckwagon and chariot driver did says it was a tough competition over the three days.

"There are sixty chariots here from Saskatchewan and Manitoba so it's probably the toughest competition in Canada right here. It's a good honor to win this show," Rosencrans said.

Rosencrans credits his win to consistency over the three days of competition. Coming in seventh, second and first over the week, he says that running clean is what brought him the prize over the event.

After racing of 24 years, Rosencrans admits that it's become second nature at this point, though he says he still gets nervous at the start of a race.

It's a family event for the Rosencrans clan, and he gave his prize to his daughters after it was presented. Rosencrans notes that his family helps him keep going and do well.

"They love cheering me on, and they're cheering me on all the time in the stands, it's good to see the smiles on their faces," Rosencrans notes

More than anything, Rosencrans says it's the camaraderie between riders that makes chuckwagon and chariot racing something Rosencrans looks forward to. He says that everyone gets along and for him and his family it's their weekend fun.

"It's my boating. Instead of going on the boat to the lake, we camp out here with the horses," Rosencrans says.

The winner of the chuckwagon races was Ryan Peterson, who achieved first place in all three days of racing.
