The annual Yorkton 4-H Light Horse Club Achievement Day event was held recently at Moon Shadow Stables (Karen Nordin and Garth Bode), with eight members taking home awards for their accomplishments throughout the year.

Local members participated in a fun-filled day beginning with Judging followed by Questionnaires, Showmanship, Tack and Groom. This year the club had a lead line class for potential up-coming youth and also a couple of parents (Way to go Chris and Rhonda!).

Dalaney DePape displayed her young horse, Valentino, in the Young Horse Development Program. This is a project where a 4-H member of at least 3 years, works with a weanling and shows them at 4-H Achievement Day as a yearling, demonstrating the work they have done. This project will take 3 years to complete.

After lunch there was more riding including Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Trail, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Costume Class and Bareback Class. The members again included their parents with a Run & Ride class. The parents/family member have a course to run while the 4-H member rides but cannot pass the runner; a crowd pleaser!

Participants for the day were:

Cloverbud: Kael DePape, Ana O'Neill

Junior: Grady Hawkins, Matthew Zalys-Smeretsky

Intermediate: Dalaney DePape, Bryn Hawkins, Brooke Switzer

Senior: Shawna Turner

Following a BBQ supper, there was a raffle and awards were presented.

Awards included - Overall Record Book: Matthew Zalys-Smeretsky

Reserve Grand Aggregate: Dalaney DePape

Grand Aggregrate: Matthew Zalys-Smeretsky

All members received awards for completion of the year.

The local club received a grant from Sears Canada this year which members used to fund two horsemanship clinics. Members also received a grant from Farm Credit Canada which they used to purchase learning DVD's for the club. The club had great support and thanks its sponsors for their generosity and for making the day a success.
