The Parkland College's Trades and Technology Centre will soon be a reality, and the Mosaic Company has made a significant donation towards the project's capital campaign. The company is investing $1.225 million in the new centre.
Bruce Bodine, Vice-President of Mosaic's Esterhazy Operations says that the company has been working on the contribution for a year. He says it's a pleasure to announce their involvement in the new facility.
Bodine says that for Mosaic, this is a sound investment, as they will be taking advantage of the students who graduate from the programs offered by the college in the new facility.
"For Mosaic, we're growing, we're expanding our operations, we need people to run our operations with highly skilled competencies and this facility will deliver that."
However, he says that skilled trades will benefit any industry in the province, and the increased workforce will benefit his company, but also other companies through the region and the province.
"It's a great cause all around in the province, investing in the people of Saskatchewan for a better future."
With the donation, Parkland College's capital campaign sits at $4.79 million, just short of their overall $5 million goal. Bodine says that any other businesses who want to take part should do so, as this expansion will benefit far beyond just his industry.
Fay Myers, Parkland College President, says that Mosaic's contribution to the new facility is a major investment in the college and the region as a whole.
"We're thrilled, and very, truly grateful to the Mosaic Company," Myers says.
The college is quickly moving towards construction of the facility. The tender will go out in January of 2014, soon after the final engineering drawings are complete, and Myers expects ground to be moving by mid-February. The facility is expected to be complete in May of 2015, with classes starting in the following September.
"There's a lot of ground to move out there, it's 20 acres, but we will be starting in February."
