While he has said more than once that he did not want the election, Conservative incumbent Garry Breitkreuz has found a possible silver lining in the election call. With the upcoming election, Breitkreuz has been rallying supporters in an attempt to help his party get a majority government. The recent opening of his campaign office in the Parkland Mall saw Breitkreuz officially begin his campaign.
The event saw the local MP focusing on what he believes is the main issue of the campaign, that being the economy. He says his party has handled the economy well in spite of a world wide recession, and that they can stand on their record in the past several years.
Breitkreuz also outlined some of the areas where his party will be focused on if elected. He promises to continue with the gun registry dismantling he has been doing in the past, and the party will also focus on justice issues and being tougher on crime.
When it comes to the election itself, he says he thinks it is strange timing for a call.
"I was quite surprised that the opposition triggered an election. I didn't think it was necessary at this point, especially when they're not poised to do that well."
Still, he believes that his party can pull off a majority in this election, and is hopeful that the election will go well, even though they didn't believe it necessary to begin with.
Breitkreuz also thanked his campaign staff, saying that without their work such a campaign would be impossible.
