Twenty-nine individuals were recently honored for dedication and among them was Yorkton's Constable Hans Thiessen of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert on behalf of the Provincial Secretary Donna Harpauer, joined Lieutenant Governor Gordon Barnhart to present the recipients with the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal in Regina last week.

"These individuals, that we honour here today, have spent a quarter of a century ensuring our safety and security," Huyghebaert says. "They have contributed to the high quality of life that residents of our province enjoy every day, and they represent a long tradition of ingenuity, dedication and excellence - the true character of Saskatchewan."

The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 years or more of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property. This can be in a volunteer or a full-time capacity. Recipients include firefighters, police officers, corrections workers, conservation officers and emergency medical responders.

The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal was established in 2003.
