The Yorkton Minor Hockey Atoms hosted a 12 team, three day tier II tournament over the weekend with two Manitoba teams and 10 Saskatchewan teams battling in four divisions with three teams in each division.
Of the 10 teams from Saskatchewan four were from Yorkton, including the Yorkton Cooperators Terriers, Yorkton Scoops Terriers, Yorkton Kawchuk Construction Ter-riers and the Yorkton Deneschuk Homes Ter-riers.
Tournament coordinator Cara Leigh Wylie says the competition was fairly even with perhaps the exception of a very strong team from Brandon, Manitoba. "It's been a good tournament," she comments.
Wylie thanks the tournament title sponsor, LDM Foods, as well as the Digger Award sponsors, Mini Storgae and Moving, Wardale Equipment, McDonald's, Jay's Moving and Storage and the VanHeerden Family for their support and assistance with the tournament.
Wylie would further like to thank the tournament committee for their hard work as well as Gina Flett and the staff at both the Kinsmen Arena and the Farrell Agencies Arena.
The Yorkton atom teams, are playing in the Major Hockey League and doing well, says Wylie. They have completed about half of their scheduled games, she reports. As well all Yorkton teams did well in the tournament.
Weekend results showed the Brandon Wheat kings claiming the A-side tournament championship over runners-up the Yorkton Kawchuk Construction Terriers.
Wynyard won the B-side title over runners-up the Yorkton Scoops Terriers.
The Yorkton Deneschuk Homes Terriers came out on top in the C-side over runners-up Regina Avalanche.
