A fixture of the summer golf season in East Central Saskatchewan is back for another year. Parkland College has announced the eighth annual Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic will be held Friday, June 21 with a 1 p.m. shot gun start at Deer Park Golf Course in Yorkton.

The event raises money for the Parkland College scholarship fund through golfer entry fees, business sponsorships, a silent auction, and games and contests. Thanks to the generous support of local businesses, community groups, and individuals, last year's event raised a record $25,600 for local students enrolled in a wide variety of programs at the college's five campuses.

"Each year we've raised more money than the last," says Dollars for Scholars co-chair Brendan Wagner. ""It's awesome to see the continued support from everyone in our region. Our golfers really enjoy the day, and knowing that the proceeds go to such a worthy cause is a big bonus."

The 1 p.m. shot gun start is new for this year's event. Past events had started at 11 a.m., but Wagner said the later start time will allow more people to get away from work for an afternoon of golf. Team registrations are filling up quickly as a result, he noted, but a few spots remain.

Entry is $100 per person or $400 for a team of four golfers. The fees include 18 holes of golf, power cart rental, barbecue steak supper, and prizes. Registration forms can be downloaded from the college's website - parklandcollege.sk.ca. Businesses can sponsor the event with either cash or prize donations.
