Saskatchewan residents continue to benefit from the Emergency Flood Damage Reduction Program.
Established in 2011, the Emergency Flood Damage Reduction Program provides assistance to implement emergency flood damage reduction or prevention measures for communities, rural municipalities, businesses and individual farm and country residences. Since April 1, 2012, the Watershed Authority has received 35 requests for assistance.
"While most of the province is starting to see water levels return to normal, there are some areas of concern," Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Watershed Authority Ken Cheveldayoff says. "With the extensive rainfall over the past weeks, we want to ensure that people affected by flooding know that their government is here for them."
Last year, the Emergency Flood Damage Reduction Program provided help to 330 communities and rural municipalities, 881 landowners with yard sites, 14 other clients and 15 First Nation communities.
The 2011 program helped Saskatchewan residents and communities save thousands of dollars in potential flood-related costs. Every dollar invested on flood prevention by the Watershed Authority saved communities, rural municipalities and individual yard sites $20.
