Entertainment to kick up a notch

The goal is to create an ongoing music scene in Yorkton and Saskat-chewan and if all goes as planned, local residents will no longer have a shortage of entertainment venues to enjoy.

The goal is to create an ongoing music scene in Yorkton and Saskat-chewan and if all goes as planned, local residents will no longer have a shortage of entertainment venues to enjoy.

Indestructible Enter-tain-ment is a fully functional booking agency that handles concert promotions for the top National Touring Acts in Canada and it now has a Yorkton base.

With a head quarter location in Ontario, founder John Sciliberto (Skilly) says he is staring an additional office in Yorkton.

"We do everything... band management, we have a pretty solid roster on our website right now, we look after cross Canada tours, a lot of concerts and festivals. We're going to continue to do so in Ontario also, my partners will run that aspect of it and I'm going to start things up here in Yorkton."

Skilly will bring with him six years of experience and a wealth of connections. His plan is to bring as much quality and in demand entertainment into Yorkton as possible.

Indestructible will be the main talent buyers inside Hollys Nightclub and The Spot Nightclub/Ultra Lounge. There are also plans to bring shows to the Gallagher Centre.

"Comedy events, country, rock, metal, everything for all ages to the 19 plus events... I'm going to try to do my best to cater to everybody." If people want to hear or see it, Skilly says he will try to bring it to Yorkton.

"I'll be relocating to the city in late August but I've already started working on some bookings and I hope to have some concert announcements by the end of the month."

With the economy on the downside in Ontario, Skilly says his girlfriend, who is from Yorkton, opted to take a full time job back at home and he believes this will be the perfect location to which to branch out his business.

"Talking with people in the area, nobody has come through yet with the patience or the experience to do this." Skilly says Indestructible will fill the bill.

"I think it just takes establishing raports with booking agents and using all the connections that have been gathered over the years... it's a process getting to that stage. If the booking agents don't know you, they'll overcharge... they want to make sure they're protected and their bands are protected, that you know what you're doing... there's a big business side to it..." And with his connections and know how, Skilly says Yorkton will be on the map.

"I've worked with everybody from Finger Eleven, to Headley... Theory of a Dead Man, Sam Roberts, Default, the Trailer Park Boys... I've worked with over 600 bands in the last six years...

"I think this is really going to turn the city around..." It will also offer up some healthy and needed competition he believes.

Catering to all ages, Skilly says he wants to see increased visibility with bands opened up to more people.

In addition to the Gallagher Centre, he says the Spot Night Club is planning to host all age venues. "I don't think at the present time there's much in the city for the kids..." To see a concert generally means a drive to Regina or Saskatoon and he hopes to change that.

He also hopes Yorkton and area residents will provide plenty of input as to what they would like to see in the coming months.

"I'm starting to get the wish lists already... I want this to really create a buzz in the city and to help out with tourism... I want this to increase the night life and give people something to do..."
