Saskatchewan Motorists will soon have better road surfaces to travel as a result of several micro surfacing projects in the province, which is expected extend the life of the pavement for several years, according to the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure.
Improvements are scheduled to get underway shortly on Highway 7 near Rosetown, while similar micro surfacing work was completed earlier this construction season near Macklin, Kindersley and Elrose.
"With more people living and working in the province than ever before, we continue to invest in our transportation network which is essential in getting goods to market," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris comments. "Micro surfacing treatments, like the ones scheduled to begin this week, will restore pavement to a uniform surface."
Micro surfacing a highway helps restore skid resistance, eliminates minor surface problems, levels ruts, helps prevents hydroplaning and reconditions the surface damage as a result of weather and traffic deterioration. The work is expected to extend the pavement's service life five to seven years before requiring any major repaving.
Several new highway construction projects are expected to get underway this week including grading work on Highway 361 near Lampman, surfacing on Highway 35 near Archerwill, a bridge replacement on Highway 58 near Gravelbourg and construction on Highway 22 near Grayson.
