On February 23, 1905, Paul Harris, Gustavus Loehr, Hiram Shorey and Silvester Schiele met to talk about their personal and professional experiences. It was at this meeting that Harris unfolded his general plan for a club, and the Rotary International was born.

From this beginning the world's first international service club was born. Since then, the organization has grown to include more than 1.2 million members in over 33,000 clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas.

The Rotary Club in Yorkton, which currently has 40 members, has been in service since 1921 and has sponsored service projects to address health, hunger, poverty, illiteracy, and the environment in the community and around the world.

To celebrate 106 years of Rotary International, Council has declared February 23 to be Rotary Day in the City of Yorkton.
