Due to the recent heavy rainfall, many private wells and cisterns in our region have been contaminated by flood water. If your well or cistern has been flooded, consider the water to be contaminated and use an alternate water source, such as bottled water.
Free bacteriological water testing is available for people whose private wells and cisterns have been flooded. Sample containers and forms are available through local health region public health offices.
Once flood water has receded, individuals should shock chlorinate their well or cistern and then submit a water sample for bacteriological testing.
Information on shock chlorination and water quality is available from Sunrise Health Region Public Health. Please call 306-786-0600 for more information or visit www.sunrisehealthregion.sk.ca and click the "Flood clean-up information" link on the home page.
