LOCAL SKATEBOARDER Dallas McGillivray, who has been skateboarding for about six years, competed in the Skate game.

They came in all sizes and shapes, various ages and both genders. Their common interest which drew them to Yorkton was skateboarding. The third annual Freedom Tour Skateboard Jam, hosted by B3Xtreme was held at the Gallagher Centre curling rink Saturday.

The event started with a skateboard clinic teaching participants to use a skateboard, how to roll around and do some tricks, says event organizer Tucker Chornomud of B3Xtreme. The clinic was followed by a pro demo which featured a professional skateboarder Dan Pague from Quebec who skates with Monkey Skate-boards. Pague demonstrated skateboard tricks and techniques.

The game of skate followed the pro demo. The game involves one person performing a trick. The opponent must replicate the same trick. If the opponent fails to replicate the trick, he or she get a letter from the word skate. The person who spells the word skate first loses the game. "Every time you miss a trick, you get a letter so you don't want to get letters," Chornomud explains.

The event wrapped up with a skateboard trick competition open to the public. Skateboarders perform tricks which are judged for creativity and level of difficulty. Winners are those who performed the moist unique and/or complex tricks, says Chornomud.

Locally the sport is growing daily with more and more youngsters getting into it, Chornomud states.

B3Xtreme offers a half pipe for boarders whose skill are ready to tackle the challenge. The skateboard store also offers a skateboarding school where youngsters can learn to skateboard indoors during the winter.
