Good things come in moderation

Wow, what's our world coming to? Admittedly, I like Facebook just as much as the next guy... well I guess I don't get into the games on the site like some people I know do, but I enjoy surfing through it and I think it does have some merit.

Wow, what's our world coming to?

Admittedly, I like Facebook just as much as the next guy... well I guess I don't get into the games on the site like some people I know do, but I enjoy surfing through it and I think it does have some merit. BUT - that doesn't mean though, that I let Facebook or any other website for that matter, rule my life.

A 22 year old Jacksonville, Florida women has plead guilty and is currently facing charges for killing her own baby son. Why? He was crying and distracting her while she was playing a game called Farmville on the well known and well used website "Facebook."

According to the young mom, she picked up her three month old baby and shook him out of frustration when he wouldn't stop crying. She then smoked a cigarette to compose herself and after that, she shook him again. She said, "he may have hit his head during one of the two shakings." How sad.

That said, you can't actually blame Facebook or the games it puts out for what has happened. This actually looks to me more like a case of post partum depression, a young woman that wasn't quite ready to start a family or someone who has no support networks in place. But that's not to say that she should be excused for what she has done.

On the other hand though, aren't there too many of our population today getting a little carried away with online life, no matter what the site?

Like alcohol, gambling, smoking or any other addiction, there are people out there who will steal away hours online and think nothing of it. Farmville is a prime example of where this can happen. It interrupts work time on the job, it takes away from home life and also from time where a person should or could be learning the concept of interacting with others. Again, it's not the fault of the game, but rather it's appeal seems to be so high that people lose themselves in it. It's engaging and it passes the time but what is it doing to real life connections?

There is room for most everything in life - IN MODERATION. If the computer or anything else is taking complete precedence then that's when I would say there's a problem. It's a shame there wasn't someone around to help the young Jacksonville mom realize that fact.
