They've completed their training locally and now they are set to embark on their career paths.
The Parkland College is pleased to acknowledge that all 18 graduates of the recently completed Practical Nursing program successfully passed the national licensing exam governed by the Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses (SALPN).
LPNs are one of three categories of professional nurses (RN, RPN, and LPN) in Saskatchewan and, according to SALPN, they continue to excel as frontline nurses who work collaboratively with the health care provider team to ensure that quality health service is consistently delivered in all stages of nursing care including the planning, assessment, and implementation phases. Saskatchewan LPNs can have various roles in the health care system in areas such as prevention, acute treatment and management, as well as palliative and long-term care.
The Practical Nursing program at Parkland College is a two year diploma consisting of 1,776 instructional hours, which includes 704 hours of theory, and over 900 hours of clinical/lab instruction. Parkland College has been delivering the SIAST Practical Nursing program in Yorkton since 1999, and to date, has graduated 99 Practical Nurses, with all graduates passing the national licensing exam. This exceeds the national average.
