The annual Yorkton GX94 Star Search competition has wrapped up and a junior winner has been named.
Singer/songwriter Lexie Tytlandsvik, 14 years old, the daughter of Allan and Allison Tytlandsvik from Radville, Saskatchewan, captured first.
On April 9, Lexie travelled to Whitewood to perform as a top 10 finalist in the competition's junior singing portion. Performing an original song "Young Love" and a cover song won her a $2,000 scholarship.
Tytlandsvik has been performing on stage across Saskatchewan for the last seven years at such venues as the Casino Regina, Craven Country Jamboree, Gateway Festival, Weyburn Cancer Jamboree and many more. She has performed alongside industry professionals such as Brad Johner, Codie Prevost, Chris Henderson, and Blake Emmons. Tytlandsvik is a proud member of the Saskatchewan Country Music Association, having showcased numerous times at the SCMA awards, and Canadian Country Music Association.
This past February, she and her family travelled to Nashville, TN for 10 days. While there she performed every night at some of the most famous venues in Nashville like the Bluebird Café, where Taylor Swift was noticed.
She was also given the opportunity to sing on the Grand Ole Opry Stage, to stand on the circle where 100 years of performers have stood and sang. It was an amazing experience for her as she made many new friends and business contacts in the music industry, it was the first of sure to be many more trips to Nashville.
Tytlandsvik has begun working on her first full length album this year and is hoping for a release date of spring of 2012. Her next performance will be at the Pump Roadhouse in Regina for the 620 CKRM Big Country Talent Show competitions on Sunday, May 1.
