The Yorkton Springers Gymnastics Club competed at the Can Am Personal Best gymnastics competition in Saskatoon over the weekend.
Springers' head coach George Baranyai says the young members of the Yorkton Springers' competitive team performed much better than they did at their first competition. The eight young gymnasts captured 14 medals, including a lot of gold medals in several events.
Shalysa Brown came in first all around in the Provincial 1 Tyro class, winning four gold medals. "The maximum a gymnast can win is five gold medals," Baranyai points out.
Cassidy Stachowich also won first all around in the Provincial 2 Open competition.
The girls are improving very well, says Baranyai. He hopes to continue improving step-by-step. "I really hope when the provincial championships arrive, the girls will hit the top level and win the same results they won in Saskatoon," he declares.
The competitive girls each train four days a week for three and a half hours per session for a total of 14 hours a week, Baranyai reports. Very competitive gymnasts typically train 16 to 20 hours a week, he notes.
The Yorkton Springers Gymnastics Club will host its annual invitational meet Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10 at Sacred Heart High School in Yorkton.
Saturday will feature the competitive gymnastics while Sunday will showcase the recreational gymnastics and demonstrations.
Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. both days.
Admission each day will be $5 for adults with children ages 12 years and under free. A weekend pass will cost $7.
