The annual Yorkton Harvest Awards night wrapped up the current season for the team. The Harvest made it to the first round of the Sask. Midget AAA Hockey League season playoffs when they were eliminated by the Prince Albert Mintos.
Harvest club president Garth Simms sees the past season as relatively successful. While the coach may have been a little disappointed with the early lineup because some players moved up to play junior hockey, it's the club's raison d'etre, Simms notes. "The whole idea is to develop young hockey players to move on to the next level and when it happens to 15 year olds, it's a bonus to us. That just tells you the coaching staff are doing the right job. We're recruiting the right kids and we're achieving positive results,"
During the up and down season, there were some bright spots in the team's performance as players turned in notable results along the way. The awards banquet recognizes the efforts of those players.
The first round of awards were the memorial awards. The Al Harrison Memorial Trophy for the Harvest top scorer was presented to Levi Cable. John Odgers claimed the Doug Hansen Award for the Most Dedicated Player. The Joel Dennis Memorial Award for leadership went to Dustin Skilliter. The Reg Kachinowski Memorial Award was presented to Harvest net minder Kale Thomson, three time winner of the award. The Mr. Hustle, Josh Campbell Memorial Award was claimed by Josh Lees and Dustin Minto. Levi Cable was awarded the Cambridge Cup of Excellence, Most Valuable Player Award.
The memorial awards were followed by top player awards. Devan Fafard was named the Top Defenseman. The A&W Top Forward was Levi Cable. Tanner LeSann was named the Norm Lutcher Rookie of the Year.
