Harvest Showdown event set for another year

It's back for another exciting year. The annual Grain Millers Harvest Showdown event has been slated for November 2 to the 5th.

It's back for another exciting year. The annual Grain Millers Harvest Showdown event has been slated for November 2 to the 5th. Once again the Wellington West/Hitching Post Heavy Horse Show and the Horse Pulls will kick off the busy week on Wednesday and Thursday in the Farrell Agency Arena.

The 2nd Annual Saskatchewan Canola Expo presented by the Yorkton Exhibition, Bayer and Sask Canola runs all day Wednesday. This event is limited to 350 producers and is selling out fast. Call the YE office to book your spot.

Thursday's events include day two of the Heavy Horse Show and Horse Pulls plus Stock Dog Competition, Cowboy Poetry, Grain Show Awards Night and Heartland Livestock Commercial Cattle Futurity Show.

Yorkton New Holland Rodeo kicks off on Friday this year hosting the CCA Novice Finals in Bareback, Saddle Bronc and Bulls. Friday is Commercial Cattle Day with the Cornerstone Credit Union Commercial Cattle Show and the sale in the Logan Stevens/Gx94 Sale Ring and then the Cattlemen's Supper followed by "Lennie and the Gypsies" sponsored by Parkland Mall. Also on Friday we have a new event, the "Invitational Ranch Rodeo" located in the Farrell Agency Arena. This new event is open to all the Community Pastures in our region who will be competing for money and prizes but most importantly "bragging rights".

Saturday kicks off with Team Roping, Maple Farm Equipment 4H judging, Auctioneer Competition in the morning followed by Custom Printers Exotic Animal Sale in the Sale Ring and Fiddling Competition in the Wellington West Room is followed by Painted Hand Casino Senior's Supper and Dance with music by "More Than Country".

Saturday night is the second performance of Yorkton New Holland Rodeo followed by the ever popular Showdown Rodeo Dance. This year's band is the "Ryan Keown Band".

The Grain Show displays, trade show and school tours run all four days. Painted Hand Casino special attraction this year from South Dakota is one of the top Rodeo acts in North America Duane Reichert with his trained horses Pony Baroni and Little Ritchie. Duane will be performing 2 shows daily as well as being the Rodeo Clown and Barrel man Friday and Saturday evening of the rodeo.

A new event this year is the Yorkton Hyundai Entertainment Stage in the Trade Show area which will host a Roughrider Roundtable on Wednesday, Cowboy Poetry all four days and Vern Reese, antique appraiser on Saturday along with other entertainment throughout the week.
