"Its a new dawn, its a new day, its a new life for me... And I'm feelin good!..."

Another year older, and another year wiser - HELLO 2012! So what are your priorities? Hopes? Dreams? Goals? Do you happen to have a resolution or two in mind?

I've said this in the past but once again it's a new year and for some reason with the turn of the calendar, we like to think about what lies ahead.

So for me... Goals? Yes. Hopes? Yes. Dreams? Absolutely! But resolutions? I'm thinking, why bother? If you ask me, all resolutions really do is set a person up for disappointment. We head into January with all of the best of intentions but that's where it always seems to end - so why put ourselves through that? Why not instead, focus on what's important in our lives and where we would like to be. I guess we can resolve to work towards our goals but let's not beat ourselves up if we don't achieve them overnight.

Why not make putting more happiness into our lives a priority? Instead of adding more clutter and chaos to our days, why don't we downsize and simplify? Rather than focusing on a certain weight or dress size, why not just work at getting more healthy and being happy? In the end, all that really matters is contentment, treating each other well and getting the most out of each day.

The fact is, there's not one of us who knows which day will be our last. We seem to be pretty fortunate here in Saskatchewan when it comes to some of the devastating happenings we see taking place in other parts of the world... war, tsunami's, earthquakes, hurricanes and the like, but that's not to say a life changing event (even on a far less grander scale) couldn't happen to us tomorrow.

Are there things you wish you had said? Things you wish you had done? Places you'd like to visit? Get to it, if at all possible.

What's truly important in life isn't how much we weigh or what car we drive, it's about making the most of every day and appreciating the good and little things.

Life is short, far too short to spend it dwelling on resolutions. In other words - carpe diem or seize the day as they say.

Happy New Year everyone!
