Hooty owl shoot draws a crowd

Skeet and trap shooters from all around showed up this past weekend to the 29th Annual "Hooty Owl" Trap Shoot.

Skeet and trap shooters from all around showed up this past weekend to the 29th Annual "Hooty Owl" Trap Shoot.

The festivities got under way last Friday at the Yorkton Wildlife Federation Club House right next to York Lake and continued until Sunday afternoon. While the event was widely considered a great success, the weather was definitely was a factor in some lower than usual scores.

"Scores have been down a bit today just simply because of the wind," Yorkton Wildlife Federation President and organizer Don Cannon explains. The tough conditions failed to dampen the competitors spirits, however. Cannon points out that fun was had by all.

"Food's been good and I think everybody's had a really good time so far," he observed after the Saturday night shoot.

With 300 more rounds on the docket for Sunday, the participants started the day with a delicious breakfast, provided by the club - a great way to start the final day of competition. For his part, Cannon was pleased with the outcome of the tournament, along with its steady growth in popularity.

"Turnout has been excellent. We've matched or exceeded attendance basically on every day. So far in the last few (five or so) years, we're at or better. So that's really good."
