How prepared are you for the future?

The idea of always being well prepared makes me think of my days on the farm. We lived on farm and about 25 miles from the city and we were aware of the need to plan ahead. From seeding to harvest we needed to plan ahead.

The idea of always being well prepared makes me think of my days on the farm. We lived on farm and about 25 miles from the city and we were aware of the need to plan ahead. From seeding to harvest we needed to plan ahead. We would go the city about once a week. We would make a careful list of needed supplies and purchase them when we got to the city.

We spend our entire life prepare for something. As a child we are studying to pass our grades and then we begin preparing for our career by attending a vocational school or university.

To be well prepared is important in so much of life. Abraham Lincoln once said, "If I had 8 hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend 6 sharpening my axe."

None of us knows what the future will hold, and I am sure we are glad we don't know what each tomorrow will bring.

We can be assured that we will endure hills and valleys in life. Some good days and some days that will be most difficult. Days of fun and laughter and days of pains and heart aches; there will be days of laughter and days of tears. Illness and death will come into our homes.

So how do we preparing for what lies ahead? What are we doing to be prepared for life in the future?

We have just completed preparing for the Christmas season, and then came the New Year preparations. Before long we will be preparing for Lent and the Easter season, followed by holidays and summer events.

We can be doing busy work by preparing homes and making delicious meals for our family, but how are we prepared spiritually for what lies ahead?

We live each day by the grace of God and each day we give thanks for things that are most important in our lives. This past week I received an email - I do not know who wrote it, or its origin, but I would like to share it with you:

Life is a Challenge... Meet it

Life is a Love... Enjoy it

Life is a Struggle... Fight it

Life is a Promise... Fulfill it

Life is a Game... Play it

Life is an Opportunity... Take it

Life is a Puzzle... Solve it

Life is a Sorrow... Overcome it Life is a Journey... Complete it

Life is a Mystery... Unfold it

Each day we call on our Creator to help us work through our upcoming day. The best preparation for the times ahead is for us to build up our faith, and take our concerns to our Creator in prayer. Life is a gift and we need to handle it with care.

"Life is God's gift to man. What we do with it is our gift to God." - Harold B. Lee

Margaret Anne Yost nursed for 35 years. Returning back to school I completed classes from the Red River College in the areas of Gerontology, Bereavement, Death and Dying. For twelve years I worked in bereavement support at a Funeral Home.

I was employed as Parish Worker at a Lutheran Church. At present I am enjoying my role as homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.
