Now that the review is complete, Saskatchewan's Chamber of Commerce is urging the provincial government to take action.

The Partners in the most comprehensive tax review completed in this province in 45 years are encouraging the provincial government to adopt a competitive tax strategy for Saskatchewan.

"A long term tax strategy needs to be implemented in order for the province of Saskatchewan to remain competitive with other provinces," explains Steve McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.

"A tax strategy is something that the provincial government should be committing to and we will be actively encouraging them to do so in the upcoming session, using the strategies that our partners and the Canada West Foundation have identified."

A Change Today For Your Tomorrow is the most comprehensive review of Saskatchewan's tax environment since 1965 and was released on October 14, 2010 with seven recommendations to create a more competitive tax environment in Saskatchewan.

The implementation period for the reforms are staged over a period of nine years in order to give the Saskatchewan government time to implement each reform.

"This is the first Saskatchewan tax review of this magnitude to be business led while keeping a broad focus on the benefits to individuals, families and property owners. The study reviewed personal income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes and corporate taxes in order to develop a comprehensive taxation enhancement strategy," said McLellan.

The organizations contracted the Canada West Foundation and its Saskatchewan Director Jack Vicq, FCA, to create the report.

"The plan provides sound, well researched advice that will help the government explore better ways to undertake the collection of provincial taxes in the years to come. Saskatchewan is doing very well economically and in order to continue strengthening the economic vibrancy of our province we must act now to sustain this growth."
