The temporary relocation of long-term care residents and staff from the Invermay Health Centre has been completed.
Following the recent discovery of some structural damage and air quality concerns, repairs required at Invermay Health Center necessitated temporary suspension of visiting health services and temporary relocation of the long-term care residents to health facilities in neighbouring communities.
"Every step in this process was coordinated in consultation with residents, their families and our staff members," says Sunrise Health Region President and CEO, Suann Laurent. "The facilities receiving residents and staff have been extremely accommodating in making everyone feel welcome and to make the transition as easy as possible in this difficult situation."
The relocation of long-term care residents and staff is temporary. Now that the facility is empty, air quality teams are onsite and structural experts will be onsite next week to assess the damage and develop a go-forward plan.
The move of residents and staff back to Invermay is anticipated as soon as the remediation work is complete and the facility is deemed safe. Residents were temporarily relocated to facilities within Sunrise Health Region in Canora, Foam Lake and Yorkton.
Sunrise Health Region employees and members of the senior leadership team were on-site at the facilities throughout the process to ensure that the transition was smooth for all.
"The residents have been received at these facilities with open arms and the cooperation of everyone involved was amazing," adds Laurent. "Seeing everyone come together as a team to look after the safety and comfort of our residents is incredibly inspiring. I want to thank all of our residents and their families, our staff members from Invermay, the SUN and CUPE union representatives, our entire health region team, the handi-bus drivers, and representatives from the Village of Invermay for their support throughout this process."
