The week of May 9-14 has officially been declared "Spring Clean Up Week" in the City of Yorkton. That means if you have junk to get rid of now is your chance to do so at no cost.

Each year the city waives landfill fees in an effort to encourage residents to clean up their properties in turn, beautifying the community.

"The program has been well received by the residents of Yorkton with an average of approximately 540 cars, trucks or small trailers utilizing the service over the past five years," says Michael Buchholzer, the city's Environmental Services Director. "Normal average during this time period would be 90 units."

From May 9-14 residents hauling refuse into the city landfill with a car, a half-ton truck or a single axle utility trailer, will have their fee waived. Schools are also encouraged to get involved in the initiative.

The landfill is open Monday to Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
