The City of Yorkton has a long term plan. The 2020 Strategic Plan names building a healthy community by encouraging healthy lifestyles and personal wellness as one of its goals. Providing social, recreational and educational opportunities for all community members works toward fulfilling that goal.

Council has declared January as "In Motion Month" in the city. Saskatchewan In Motion is a province wide movement aimed at increasing physical activity for health, social, economic and environmental benefits by encouraging people to become more physically active.

Designating January as In Motion Month, the city hopes the promotion will:

Increase physical activity levels of residents.

Educate citizens and businesses of the importance of being physically active and making positive, healthy lifestyle choices.

Increase the use of both revenue generating and non-revenue generating facilities.

Encourage family physical activities.

Expose citizens to different ways of becoming physically active.

Encourage neighbors and newcomers to get together.

The schedule of events and activities planned as part of In Motion Month include: January 2-31 - Free walking at the Gloria Hayden Community Centre (GHCC); January 2-31 - Buy One Get One Free (BOGO) Racquet Courts at the GHCC.
