June is Recreation and Parks Month in Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) is promoting June as Recreation and Parks Month. Part of the month every year is the provincial launch, which will take place in Yorkton.

The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) is promoting June as Recreation and Parks Month. Part of the month every year is the provincial launch, which will take place in Yorkton.

The event is slated at Weinmaster Park on June 11 at 1:00 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the launch will be moved to the Gloria Hayden Community Centre. The launch party will see a flag raising and a party in the park to celebrate. The month will promote the contributions recreation activities, facilities and parks make to the quality of life in the province.

Delmar Zwirsky, Chairperson of the Community Development, Parks and Recreation Committee also notes that the summer will see a variety of leisure activities in the community. Also on June 11 there will be an introduction to cricket at the Gallagher Centre Flexihall. There will be an introduction to disc golf at Patrick Park on a date to be determined, a youth sport and swim night on June 27 at the Gallagher Centre, and the Silver Heights Park Party on July 27.

Yorkton in Bloom will also be in full swing this year, with the entry deadline on July 15 at the Gloria Hayden Community Centre, The fifth annual Yorkton In Bloom Garden Tour will take place July 28.
