The Yorkton Regional High School (YRHS) Junior Lady raiders hosted a six team round robin girls' volleyball tournament over the weekend. Tournament coordinator, junior girls' coach Jennifer Ingham explains the tournament hosted senior teams from the smaller high schools with a smaller student enrollment in the surrounding area. "So it's not the same teams that played in the senior tournament a couple of weeks ago," she says.

The teams were pretty well matched with the possible exception of Leroy which dominated in terms of wins, Ingham notes.

The level of play was very good and was very entertaining to watch, she adds.

The YRHS junior girls team has 10, players this year, Ingham reports. The girls ave very athletic and skilled, Ingham says. The team is working on communication and playing together as a team, she continues.

The Junior Lady Raiders showed a lot of promise in the earlier YRHS Senior girls' tournament against some top level teams. They finished third at the Thom Collegiate to claim a bronze medal. "I'm very excited for these girls for when they get to senior level ball because they are very skilled players. They will be very strong in their Grade 12 year," Ingham predicts.

The Junior Lady Raiders finished third in the round robin. They played an exciting semi-final match against Preeceville, losing the first set 24-26, but came back to win the next two sets 25-23 and 17-15.

YRHS advanced to the final against LeRoy. Yorkton lost the first set 22-25, but came back to win the second set 25-22. The final went to a third set where the Junior Lady Raiders lost 10-15.

The next action for the YRHS junior girls will be a tournament October 14 and15 in Canora.
