The Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) Junior Saints hosted a football Jamboree Saturday at the SHHS football field.

Jamboree coordinator, Junior Saints coach, Darcy Todos explains the event was for football players in Grades 7-9 including the Junior Saints, Moosomin and Melville. "The event gave a tournament-like feel to football," Todos states.

The morning started with a skills competition. There were three stations, one for quarterbacks, one for defensive backs and running backs and a general lineman drill, a good old fashioned tug-of-war, Todos lists.

The scrimmages involved games of two 23 minute halves. The purpose was to help develop position play as well as to develop a team atmosphere on the field.

The jamboree caps the season for the Junior Saints.

The team consisted predominantly of Grade 9 players which was a new experience, says Todos. "We look forward to see those guys move on to the senior team and to see the Grade 7s and 8s build the junior program for next year," he states.

The Junior Saints team won the linemen tug-of-war.

Junior Saints signal caller Tannum Wyonzek claimed the quarterback skills competition.

The defensive backs competition was won by a player from Moosomin.

"It's nice to see that in our nine man conference that junior football is growing. We've had some really good games and a very good atmosphere with our Melville, Esterhazy, Sacred Heart connection this year," Todos closes.
