Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) hosted a girls' soccer tournament over the weekend.

The Sacred Heart Lady Saints claimed a 6-2 win over North Battleford in their first game. SHHS goals were scored by Rita Fetsch and Kristen Jonassen who had two each while, Kaylee Ford and Leta Perepeluk each added a single.

In the A side semi final Prince Albert (P.A.) St. Mary downed Sacred Heart 3-2 in double overtime. Fetsch and Ford scored a goal apiece.

The bronze medal match saw Sacred Heart claim the win 3-2 over Regina Campbell. Rita Fetsch led the scoring with a pair of goals and Samantha Okrainec added a third.

The team started slowly in the game against North Battleford, reports head coach Jeanne Fetsch. They weren't focused and made some defensive errors. While the girls ended up winning 6-3, a better effort would be needed in the semi final game against P.A. St. Mary, the eventual tournament champions, Fetsch adds.

The Sacred Heart girls played well against P.A. and forced them to overtime, Fetsch notes. "P.A. is a much larger school and all of their athletes are club players that play city leagues. The Saints did well to stay with them," she states.

In the final game against Regina Campbell Collegiate the Saints were down one goal with 15 minutes remaining in the game. The Lady Saints scored twice in the later part of the game to win, Fetsch relates.

The girls will be working on defensive clearance and better use of space in the attacking end. They will also focus on ball control and playing better possession soccer Fetsch states.

The Lady Saints next action will be an exhibition game against the Yorkton Regional High School girls Thursday at 5 p.m. at the SHHS soccer field.
