A GROUP OF LOCAL FARMERS recently partnered to help raise funds for the Lipton Memorial Rink.

A project to raise funds for the upkeep and maintenance of the Lipton Memorial Rink has, for the second year, reached fruition when the community completed harvesting a 250 acre oat crop.

"Many farmers thought we were looking at another harvest like last year but, it was totally different," says Twila Miller of the Lipton Land Project.

"Trying days were had by all as getting stuck was something you just could not avoid. Low and behold the sun came out and stayed out long enough for the farmers to get their crops in, including the Lipton Memorial Rink Land Project.

"October 15 was a great day for the community of Lipton and everyone should be proud of how well this day went and be proud of how the community came together to make it happen," she adds.

Thanks go out to the many farmers in the area, chemical companies, as well as the equipment dealers which included Maple Farm Equipment, Markusson New Holland and Young's Equipment who made the harvest possible by providing demo units to help get the crop off.

"There were a total of nine combines (including the three demo's), four grain carts with tractors and Triple T Trucking of Insinger for the seven Super B's that sat waiting in the field for the day as we harvested to ensure that we did not have to bin any grain. It was hauled directly into Grain Millers from Yorkton."

Teaming up with Grain Millers this year as oats were seeded was the best fit for what the Lipton Rink group were looking for adds Miller.

"Grain Millers was glad to be part of such a community project and made it work to take delivery of all the grain right off the combine saving everyone involved a bunch of work after harvest."

Combining took a total of 2.75 hours to get the 250 acres of crop off reports Miller.

"Many farmers who came out to see harvesting had the opportunity to get in and try out first hand the demo units as well as compare notes on each others equipment to see how things stacked up against each others units.

"Of course as we all know this year was not the year for the "bumper" crop but we ended up with good quality oats and a decent yield. All the proceeds of the crop will go to upkeep and maintenance of Lipton Memorial rink.

"Once again, we would like to thank all those who have taken the time to volunteer the equipment, the time, and labor for this project through seeding and harvest. It is so much appreciated and without everyone working together we would not have been able to pull it off," Miller concludes.
