Premier Brad Wall is inviting Saskatchewan residents to nominate a recipient for the seventh annual Council of the Federation (COF) Literacy Award.
Created by Canada's Premiers, this annual award recognizes outstanding achievement, innovative practice and excellence in literacy in each of Canada's provinces and territories. It has been awarded every year since 2005.
"The Council of the Federation Literacy Award provides a great opportunity to recognize and honour the significant contributions of members of our community to enhancing literacy development across the province," Wall says. "Increasing the literacy levels of Saskatchewan citizens is key to our province's economic and social well-being."
In 2012, the COF Literacy Award will recognize the outstanding achievements of a literacy learner, one who has demonstrated courage and commitment in improving their literacy skills and achieving their learning goals, and who has also helped to advance literacy in Saskatchewan.
The nomination deadline is June 6, 2012, and the award recipient will be honoured in a presentation ceremony to take place in fall, 2012. To nominate a recipient for this award, visit: www.education.gov.sk.ca/literacy or call the Provincial Library and Literacy Office at 306-787-2514.
