For many Christians, it can be a challenge to study and understand the Bible. Yorkton author Sandy Marteniuk has written a book called North American Bible Study, in order to help people across the continent better understand the scripture.

The project is the culmination of many years of studying the Bible and learning how to interpret it. Marteniuk says he has been studying the scriptures for over 30 years, and this is the culmination of those years of study.

"I was seeking the Lord and wanting to understand the scriptures quite well... As I was doing this, things were coming out that would help me get more understanding of the word, as something leaped out at me I'd mark it down, write it down and keep a log of it," he details.

The book itself began about seven years ago, when Marteniuk woke in the night, inspired to use his years of study to put the book together and use his years of study to help others.

"I could say that this is more like putting a jigsaw puzzle together, you get pieces here and there and you put them together and pretty soon you get a picture of the meaning of the scriptures."

Marteniuk admits that as a first time author, it was a struggle to get the project together, and it took five editions before he was satisfied with the text and the content. He's grateful to Bishop Russell Sereda and his wife Oksana for giving him help editing the book and preparing the latest edition.

"I always look at it as when the telephone was first invented, we just had a dial tone and so many rings, and it kept improving until today, when we have a completely different system," Marteniuk relates.

The book itself is free to those who want it, and they can contact Marteniuk at 786-7721 to learn more or if they want to help with the costs involved. Marteniuk emphasizes that the project is not for profit, but is an important part of his faith.

"I want to publish to let people know the lord is real and they can reach out to him," he concludes.
