The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association has honored a local resident with the 2011 President's Award of Distinction. Clive Craig has been involved in the recreation and parks field for over 35 years, and his life's work has seen him honored with this award.
The President's Award of Distinction is one of the most prestigious awards given out by SPRA each year. The award goes to people who have had a lasting impact and enhanced the public image of parks and recreation in the province, district, and/or the local level.
SPRA has given the award to Craig based on his long involvement with parks and recreation in the province, which began in Elrose in 1976, and continued in Esterhazy and now the Gallagher Centre here in Yorkton. Areas which the organization has cited Craig's involvement as being a long time member of the SPRA board, where he is described as a valued and vocal member. Craig is also one of the founding members of the Parkland Valley Sport, Culture and Recreation District.
"It's always great when your peers recognize you, it's a great compliment to me," Craig says.
He believes that volunteering is something that makes life better, both for himself and the people around.
"It's number one for health reasons, and number two we need volunteers. It keeps our costs down and it's just something I've always enjoyed doing," Craig comments.
