She has ties to Yorkton and on April 10, 17 year old Preeceville teen, Meagan Barabash was crowned Miss Teen Saskatchewan-World 2011 at the Miss Teen Canada-World regional pageant held in Saskatoon.
Nineteen girls between the ages of 14 and 19 competed for a chance to represent the province at an upcoming national pageant. A total of nine girls were crowned and will advance to the national pageant which will take place July 9-17 in Toronto where the winner will receive over $30,000 in cash and prizes. The girl with the highest score from five different categories - evening gown, swim wear, photogenic, interview, and behaviour - was crowned Miss Teen Saskatchewan-World 2011; Meagan was the recipient of the exciting title. The remaining eight girls received titles based on their location within the province.
Born and raised in Preeceville Barabash is currently attending Grade 11 at Preeceville High School. In addition to achieving exceptional marks and receiving Honours and First Class Honours throughout each school year, she involves herself in helping with SRC, participating and coaching sports, and participating in the band program. She has advanced to the provincial level many times with cross-country and track and has received many awards for her musical talents.
Above all else, Barabash lives to dance. She studies in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, contemporary and lyrical, and has received numerous awards throughout the past eleven years. She won a bronze medal in archery at the 2008 Saskatchewan Summer Games. In her spare time, Barabash volunteers with school and community functions. She has recently participated for the weekend of Saskatchewan's Telemiracle, helping with such a worthy cause was an unexplainable experience. Barabash says she wishes to be a role model for girls, and wants to inspire young girls to find their inner beauty in a world of unreal expectations and ideals.
Over the weekend in Saskatoon, the girls learned their opening number dance, learned etiquette, such as how to walk gracefully in heels, talk confidently, and sit properly. That evening they had a preliminary swimsuit competition and then were interviewed by the panel of judges. Sunday consisted of a lot of practicing and rehearsals for the show that evening. Make-up artists and hairdressers were present to get the girls ready for their big night.
Each of the girls had to develop a platform of what they believe in and represent.
"My platform is to inspire girls to find their inner beauty. I feel girls are under a lot of pressure these days to be someone they're not and I think it's important for them to find who they truly are inside. If girls are confident with who they are people will see them as beautiful both inside and out" says Barabash .
The next step will be preparing herself for the national pageant. All delegates are required to take part in public appearances and do events as well as fundraise. Barabash says she is looking forward to organizing numerous fundraisers and is hoping to get a great deal of support from the local area.
Another way she is looking for support is to have people go online once the pageant begins by logging on to www.missteencanadaworld.com and cast their vote for her. She will also be making public appearances and is willing to help out at community events in the area.
