There was good news for a number of local residents as well as a boost for local health care initiatives following The Health Foundation's annual Cash Lottery campaign. On Tuesday a list of winners was released including the names of the grand prize winners.
It was a phone call Willie and Olga Malek of Yorkton won't soon forget. The husband and wife couple, who say they have no definite plan yet for the money aside from sharing a portion with family, won the $100,000 grand prize draw.
Ross Fisher, Executive Director of The Health Foundation presented the cheque to the Malek's as well as, a cheque for $22,862.50 to Stuart and Barb Greenstein of Rhein, who won the 50/50 lottery.
It's an exciting moment for the winners and a definite boost for The Health Foundation which raises about $50,000 annually through the annual campaign.
"Profits from The Health Foundation's $100,000 Cash Lottery are being used to assist the purchase of an additional ultrasound machine for the regional Health Centre in Yorkton," says Fisher.
"We need the additional machine so more tests can be done and we can reduce the wait times for exams.
"This lottery is one of our key fundraising efforts and we are grateful to everyone who purchased a ticket and helps to make the lottery a success."
"As usual, 100 per cent of the profits are used locally to improve our health care.
"We also want to thank the Credit Unions in our health region for once again selling our lottery tickets. Credit Unions sell about 13 per cent of tickets, and make the lottery more accessible to people in their own community. We want it to be convenient for people to buy tickets, and having tickets for sale locally in 31 communities in our region, ensures everyone had a good opportunity to buy tickets," continues Fisher.
