Cold temperatures and snowdrifts don't stop all local motocross racers from racing it seems. Young MX phenom Kennedy Lutz simply took her competitive nature and her bike south to Gainsville, Florida where she rode in the motocross mini-olympics. The event features the top young racers in the U.S. It's considered one of the top three MX events in the U.S., says Kennedy's dad, Ken Lutz.
The week long event which ran November 20 to 26 saw Lutz racing in both supercross and outdoor motocross races. Despite being less experienced in supercross which is run on a shorter track with lots of jumps, Lutz qualified for the Ladies Class and won her nine to 11 years age class.
The second half of the week featured motocross racing which she was more comfortable in. Lutz topped the field in the motocross races as well.
Lutz reports that the supercross track was kind of muddy and the motocross track was more to her liking.
She recalls riding in third place in the supercross race. She passed the rider ahead of her to pull into second place. When the first place rider crashed, Lutz went on to win the race.
Lutz got the hole shot in the motocross race and stayed in front from start to first place finish She remembers it being quite an easy ride for her.
Her bike was properly set up for both races thanks to her crew chief, dad.
Since Lutz has stopped playing hockey it has opened the possibility for more racing south of the border. She might park her bikes in Phoenix and take advantage of reduced air fares to train down there this winter. The plan will be to try to qualify for the Loretta Lynn race again next year, try to take in some Canadian national races and ride in the Saskatchewan Motocross circuit when there is some free time between national and international races.
